.: Colors of the Dachshund :.

  • Black and Tan: Most people only know or readily recognize Dachshunds as this color. Has tan points (the two tan dots above the eyes for example) and is mostly black, but breeding black & tan to black & tan over a number of generations will start breeding out the tan points.

  • Chocolate and Tan: A Hershey Candy Bar, ranging from the milk chocolate to the dark unsweetened Chocolate.  A Chocolate and Tan should have tan points.

  • Cream: The Color of the oily yellowish part of non-homogenized milk. The Lighter the better and should have the darkest eyes, nose and nails.  Colors range from a dingy looking white to a butter color.  Can have black overlay (known as sable).

  • Wheaten:Most common in Wirehaired Dachshunds.  The color itself is the color of Pale-Yellow as in the color of wheat.  Most people call it yellow.

  • Wild Boar:Another Wirehaired Color.  Looks like a Wild Boar Pig.  The hair shaft is red and black.  Looks like a black & tan from a distance.

  • Red:A Red can be a very light blond color to a very deep Mahogany red, like a Irish Setter.
